Dr. Kulkarni is the HMS Professor of Medicine, and Co-Head of the Section on Islet Cell and Regenerative Biology, Director of the P&F Program DRC at Joslin Diabetes Center,and holds the inaugural Margaret A. Congleton Endowed Chair.He is the Principal Faculty at Harvard Stem Cell Institute and Associate Member of the Broad Institute. Following his medical training at Bangalore Medical College, St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore and the Endocrine Unit at Hammersmith Hospital, he obtained his doctoral degree from the University of London, England. Subsequently, he completed a post-doctoral Fellowship at Joslin Diabetes Center and joined the Faculty at Joslin/Harvard in 1999. Dr. Kulkarni is recipient of the Endocrine Society’s Ernst Oppenheimer Award, the Albert Renold Prize (EASD) and Julio Santiago MD Memorial Lecture. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and Association of American Physicians.His lab is invested in understanding mechanism(s) that underlie pancreatic islet cell regeneration and hepatic metabolism with a focus on growth factor signaling, induced pluripotent stem cells and mRNA methylation.
