Dr. Louis H. Philipson MD PhD

Dr. Philipson is the James Tyree Professor for Diabetes Research Care in the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Chicago. He is the founding Director of the Kovler Diabetes Center and served as the 2019 President for Science and Medicine of the American Diabetes Association. He has been an active member of the American Diabetes Association. He has served as President of the Chicago / Northern Illinois ADA Community Board, served on the National Board, and served on a variety of committees including Grant Review, Legal Advocacy, the Scientific Sessions Oversight committee, and currently, is part of the ADA steering committee for the precision medicine for diabetes initiative.

He received the Banting medal for service as part of the 79th Annual Scientific Sessions (2019) for his term as President for Medicine and Science.

In 2018 he was inducted as a laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois, the highest civilian honor of the State of the Illinois.
